Barite

Barite (Barytes)
Product Description
Barite is a naturally occurring barium sulphate mineral (BaSO₄) used primarily as a weighting material in drilling fluids. Its high specific gravity allows mud density to be increased to help manage formation pressure within the approved well-control programme. It is generally chemically stable, but particle-size distribution, density and contaminants are important to fluid performance.
Key Applications
  • Oil and gas drilling-fluid weighting
  • Selected water-well and HDD mud systems
  • Workover or other fluid systems where specified by the operator
Technical & Procurement Information
Typical buyer checks: specific gravity, BaSO₄ content, particle-size distribution/sieve residue, water-soluble alkaline-earth metals, moisture and applicable API 13A requirements. Never claim API compliance without current grade-specific test evidence.
